Disruptive innovation has been a buzzword since Clayton Christensen coined it back in the mid 1990s to describe the way in which new entrants in a market can disrupt established businesses. It’s gained even more prominence in the past two decades as companies like Uber, Lyft, Etsy, and countless other startups have emerged with a goal of changing their respective industries.
According to an article in the Harvard Business Review, WHAT IS DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION?
According to Christensen, disruptive innovation is the process in which a smaller company, usually with fewer resources, is able to challenge an established business (often called an “incumbent”) by entering at the bottom of the market and continuing to move up-market. This process usually happens over a number of steps:
Our aim is to disrupt the traditional methodologies of helping and care assistance with AI technology. Doing so will offer immediate and long-term benefits to our ecosystem of residents, their families, and the caregivers.
The management of Life and Abundance comes from years of experience in technology, real estate investing and healthcare. You may be thinking, why is adding AI technology to AL and MC facilities a big deal? Since AL was first identified 30 years ago, the healthcare industry has always been a ‘medical haven’ for practitioners. Nurses were either school-trained or OTJ trained. Teaching others has always been a matter of 'watch me, do this’. Many activities and techniques currently being used and ‘passed on’ are the same ones taught three decades ago.
Why are our homes unique and what benefits do they provide the Boomers? It’s not as much the home as the process…
Here’s where we start separating from our peers.
We’re completely focused on providing our residents with the best living experience possible. Our competition is always seeking to raise the monthly invoice for their loved one. Not us. We offer a one-time monthly fee that covers the resident regardless of the amount of care and time they require. Although we seek profits ourselves, our approach is to offer the best services achievable, but not reduce the resident to a ‘bed cost’.
We also entered this initiative wanting to provide relatable and quantitative results to our Caregivers as well as our residents. Caregivers have hard roles – it’s not easy physically controlling other people as assistance. They’re stressed. They work long hours with low pay.
Not with us. We start with hiring certified and veteran RN House Directors and CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistant) and Caregivers. We encourage our CG to become CNAs by paying for their training. Upon certification, they receive a raise. We pay all CNAs top-scale compensation with benefits. We limit work weeks to a standard 36 hours. We do this as a policy because we want our staff to be refreshed and attentive during their shifts.
Now comes the greatest infrastructure upgrades ever in the senior care living industry. We spend to upgrade the property to include fire suppression (sprinkler system), alarm systems to eliminate wandering, sometimes wiring depending on the property, and the AI hardware and software.
So, what are your benefits? Let’s list this way…
Every room and throughout the campus has voice control for appliances, ceiling fans, temperature, lighting, hot water for showers, electronics and door locks. The campus deploys a robotic vacuum/mop for daily sweeping. Intelligent door handles that require the proper fingerprint to enter – or your phone or a key. If you ever fall, the technology will immediately identify you and your location. If you’re inside, the lights in that room will flicker on/off until reset. All staff receive alert notifications and respond immediately. We'll provide expert medication to each resident. Along with tons of interactions, both with the staff and other residents, as we want to spend so much more time with our residents as companions and caregivers as possible. That's why we deploy the technology, it provides the benefits of increased productivity while using fewer resources intelligently and strategically.
Here’s the game-changer. Your vitals are going to be monitored, unobtrusively, 24x7 and information recorded into your health record. As time passes, we’ll be able to detect events, compare the information and make determinations about improving/declining health and make more timely reactions. We want to provide the best accommodations for all Boomers transitioning through life.
Are you passionate about what we're doing? Let us know! We are always looking for people to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to look for simplified solutions that's best suits for your elders. We're excited to help you!
